Score one for the WCM!

The World's Cheapest Man is suddenly Not So! Having been listening to me make noises about how an MP3 player would be a really nice thing to have when I go on my walks, the WCM done up and bought me one! And it's a beaut. Henceforth, he shall be known as the World's Not So Cheapest Man, or WNSCM, for those who like to save time.

So now I have the challenge of finding 2500 songs to fill up my new toy. I'm up to 162, and that's without the collected works of Sting.

Suggestions, anyone?

  • i'm into weird stuff right now. but if you want suggestions, how about:

sevara nazarkhan (the best uzbekistan has to offer!)

    natasha atlas (arabic-belgian fusion)

cheb mami (rai: a form of music that developed in the north african slums of france)

    should i go on?

  • Taylor - great to hear from you! I have some of those already, although all my Bowie is on vinyl... You forget, grasshopper, I am old and wise.

Jeremy - not having any arabic at my disposal, I tend to limit myself to Sting's "Desert Rose" as my sole arabic recording. But, hey - I'll always try something new!

  • actually "desert rose" was recorded with cheb mami. actually, most rai is in both french and arabic (and i don't understand algerian dialect, so the arabic makes no sense to me either).

  • Stuff floating around my computer speakers lately:

    -Avenue Q soundtrack
    -Dire Straits
    -Anything Randy Newman
    -Norah Jones (1st album)
    -Stargate Soundtrack
    -Monty Python Sings
    -Brian Setzer Orchestra
-Adiemus (Awesome british new-age group w/Karl Jenkins-- you'd like them, probably WCM would too)

And hey, way cool on the mp3 player!! WCM dun good!! Jeff and I have considered getting one (He actually bought me one 4 years ago...but it was so new it only holds about 5 songs so was sort of worthless. Poor Jeff). Hope you enjoy it! (What's the size, btw, besides just being 2600 songs worth?

  • the stargate soundtrack? why natacha atlas contributed to that.

i'm telling you, arab singers are everywhere. i had a bunch of them before i got into this stuff and didn't even know it

  • Stargate? I LOVE that show - and the theme song is amazing.

Brian Setzer Orchestra is also a goodie. Jump, Jive, & Wail!

WNSCM got the 5 gig model by Creative. I had it plugged in my ears all day today while I packed up my classroom - it's awesome!!!

  • Yo

    New Suggestion:

    Dayna Kurtz

She is an obscure artist that I saw open for Richard Thompson at the Keswick. I later went to an album release party for her at the Painted Bride and it was kewl! Plus, elle chante en français! Her album "Beautiful Yesterday" has a song in french called "parlez-moi d'Amour" which is probably a cover but is sweet anyway.
